Interview with Wedding Planner/Designer Jean Neuhart

It’s important for you to know who you’re dealing with, so here is a little bit of information about me.

Q. How did you become a wedding planner?

A. Although I became professionally involved in wedding planning in early 1994, the idea and dream started years earlier while planning my own wedding in 1988. With only ½ hour lunch breaks to take care of the planning, it was challenging, however the experience sparked my interest and desire to pursue this career. I knew that planning my own wedding wasn’t enough, so in 1994 I joined the Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC), completed their Professional Development Program and apprenticed under the ABC’s Ohio State Coordinator.

Q. Do you belong to any associations/organizations?

A. Yes. I am a senior member of the Association of Bridal Consultants and a member of Weddings Beautiful, the Dayton Wedding Connection, and Coordinators Corner.

Being a part of these amazing organizations gives me a strong foundation, abundant resources and the knowledge necessary to truly be an expert in the world of weddings, as well as having the pleasure to meet wedding industry legends, including Preston Bailey, Sylvia Weinstock, and Peggy Post.

1. Q. What training or certifications do you have?

A. In 1994 I earned the designations of “Professional Bridal Consultant” and “Distinguished Graduate” by completing ABC's Professional Development Program. I’ve also participated in several ABC training seminars (including “Cakes 101" and “Cultural Horizons”) and conferences (local and national), and participated in The Special Event educational program (including “Design” and “Wedding Trends”) in 2009. I’m also Butterfly Release Certified.

Q. Your wedding planning services and photos look great. So, what sets you apart from other wedding planners?

A. Weddings From The Heart is a full service wedding planning company specializing solely in weddings (and wedding-related events, such as showers and rehearsal dinners). This is not a “hobby” and I do not have another “day job” so you know I will always be there to respond to questions, and take care of all the details for your wedding in a timely and thorough manner.

I do not have associate planners which means I personally handle and attend to every wedding and every couple myself. You will always have my personal, one-on-one attention. But don’t worry, I do have assistants for the wedding day itself. I take only a limited number of weddings a year. Why? Because I believe in quality over quantity. Your wedding should be the absolute best it can be, and to achieve that I have to have the time to devote to you and your wedding, to carefully search out the best vendors and resources, create and develop ideas and concepts to complement and express your wedding vision and transform all of these elements to bring your wedding vision to life. You and your wedding will never get lost in a “sea” of other weddings.

I’ve been a speaker at wedding seminars and bridal shows and have also been featured in local newspapers and television news. Writing is another passion of mine. Some of my articles can be seen at Wedding Party Help, Dress Up Your Wedding, Wedding Museum, and Ezine Articles.

I absolutely love what I do. It is definitely a passion. Being a part of the joy and happiness that only happens at weddings, the excitement and romance, getting to learn about different cultures and their traditions, exploring creative ways to come up with new ideas – I can’t imagine anything better. Oh wait. There is one thing that’s better – seeing the happy smiles on the faces of the bride and groom, and knowing that I helped put them there.

Q. Everything sounds fantastic and just what I need. Will I be able to afford it?

A. To plan the average wedding it will take a bride at least 250 hours -- the equivalent of at least 6 weeks devoted solely to planning her wedding! What bride has that kind of time?

It’s not just the time involved, but the stress it can cause – not knowing what to ask or where to look, getting too much feedback and opinions from your friends and family – it can leave you wanting to shout “Enough! I can’t wait until my wedding day is over with!” I’ll help you be able to look forward to your wedding day with anticipation, not just waiting for it to finally be done and over with.
